Berry Tennis Team Receives Two Commitments For `13
Berry College tennis coach Clay Hightower has announced that
Jackson Pittard of The Darlington School and Ethan Norton of
Lumpkin County High School have committed to enroll at Berry
College in the fall and continue their academic and athletic
Pittard helped Darlington advance to the state semifinals twice. He also lettered for the Tigers` wrestling team.
A recipient of a National Merit Scholar Commendation, Pittard is the co-chair of the French Club and a member of the jazz band at Darlington. He is also the recipient of Silver, Bronze and Gold Congressional Medals, which he received in honor of his completion of more than 400 hours of volunteer community service, physical fitness, personal development and exploration/expedition. Pittard is also an Eagle Scout.
He plans to major in pre-veterinary medicine at Berry.
Norton is a four year letter winner at Lumpkin County who helped lead his team to the state playoffs for the first time in school history.
During his time at Lumpkin County, he has earned the Young Indian Award and the Outstanding Junior Award for his accomplishments in athletics, while also earning the Freshman Acadamy Award in 2008, the Small Business Development Award in 2010, and the Rotary Club Leadership Award in 2011.
Norton has also competed at the Windward Tennis Academy and in various USTA tournaments, and competed on Lumpkin County`s cross country team.
He plans to major in physics at Berry
