SACS in Atlanta to Determine Accreditation

The fate of Atlanta Public Schools is still in the air
as members of the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools visited the system this week. SACS has been
talking to school leaders and parents to determine if
the Atlanta school board has improved its operations and to
see if the system will keep its accreditation.
The move came after a standardized test cheating scandal
shook the foundation of the system this past summer.
173 educators were implicated in the scandal.
One of the losses to the system would be the loss
of the HOPE scholarship to students if the system
were to lose accreditation.
A final decision should be made in the next 30 days.
