AARP Calls for Sales Tax on Services

The President of the Georgia American Association of
Retired People (AARP) called for an expansion of the
Georgia sales tax to include services. In response to
a question from a member of the Special Council on Tax
Fairness for Georgians, the AARP did ask that
health care services be excluded from the task.
In addition to the AARP, representatives from a
number of other groups spoke to the commission.
The President of the Georgia Cattleman`s Association
called for a sales tax exemption for fuel used
by Georgia Agriculture interests.
The commission held a hearing in Rome at the Forum on Tuesday.
The commission final public hearing will be in Gainesville.
