According to a report by Standard & Poor`s Case/Shiller, Metro Atlanta`s house prices showed improvement in June. Prices were up 2 percent from June 2009 to June 2010. Prices in June also were up 1.7 percent from May. The improvements are likely a residual effect of the federal home buyer tax credits worth up to $8,000 that expired April 30.

The U.S. National Home Price Index rose 4.4 percent in the second quarter of 2010, after having fallen 2.8 percent in the first quarter.

Nationally, home prices are 3.6 percent above their year-earlier levels.
