The Language & Literacy Center, a cooperative program of Georgia
Northwestern Technical College and the Rome-Floyd County Library,
is hosting an Open House in celebration of National Adult
Education and Family Literacy Week 2010. The drop-in Open House
will be held on Thursday, September 9th between 11:00 am - 2:00
pm. The Center is located on the 2nd floor of the Rome-Floyd
County Library.
The week of September 13th has been designated by Congress as National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week. The National Coalition for Literacy would like to use this week to promote the importance of adult education. Many adults struggle with language and literacy skills on a daily basis. This week will be used to honor the adults who strive to improve their skills as well as the programs and individuals who work with them.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College, the Rome-Floyd County Library, local school boards, the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority, and other collaborating partners work together to sponsor adult education programs serving the seven counties of Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Polk, and Walker. Adult Learning Centers enroll over 4,000 students each year in academic programs leading to the General Educational Development (GED®) Diploma.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College and Rome-Floyd County Library would like to invite you to join our literacy efforts for adult students in Northwest Georgia. Come to the Open House and meet our staff, students, and volunteer tutors. For more information, call 706-236-4617.
