03-19-2010
The first day of the NCAA tournament featured some big upsets
as so-called mid-majors defeated a slew of major college
teams. Among the victims were Georgetown, Florida,
Vanderbilt and Notre Dame.
The biggest upset was Ohio University`s convincing 97-83
defeat of Georgetown. The Big East Conference as
a conference had a bad day as No. 2 seed Villanova needed
overtime to beat 15-seed Robert Morris and Marquette,
Georgetown and Notre Dame all lost.
The SEC didn`t have a good day either as both Florida
and Vanderbilt were defeated. Tennessee did hold off 11th-seed
San Diego State but just barely, winning 62-59.
Wake Forest, which isn`t a small school, did put
the final nail in former No. 1 Texas`s coffin as
they defeated the Longhorns 81-80 on a last second
jumper.
