Bengtsson, who shot an opening round 72 on Saturday that put him in a tie for fourth, fired a one-under 71 in his second round early Sunday before concluding with a 78 later on in the day.
His three-round total of five-over, 221, was good enough for a tie for third place overall with Nathan Leonhardt of Johnson & Wales University and Frank Berznanskis of Brevard Community College, who led the field after Saturdays first round. All three finished four strokes behind tournament medalist Drew Matthews of Southeastern University.
Bengtsson now has three top five finishes in Shorters three spring events. He took medalist honors at the Thomas University Winter Invitational in Valdosta, Ga., in February.
Shorters Nico van Rensburg placed 37th with a final total of 232 (76-77-79). Julio Coto (81-76-80=237) and Joaquin Correnti (82-78-82=242) finished 51st and 64th, respectively, and Jesper Carlsson rounded out the Hawks placers with a three-round total of 81-84-87=252, good enough for 88th-place in the 108-player field.
Brevard Community College took the team title with a three-round total of 891. University of South Carolina-Beaufort (898), Johnson & Wales (900), Southeastern (903) and St. Thomas University (910) rounded out the top five.
The Hawks return to the links March 25-27 when they travel to Camp Lejeune, N.C., for the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Invitational.
