Berry College’s yearlong focus on the artwork of talented alumni
artists continues in March with an exhibit by Marty Kahnle. Moon
Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by
appointment. The exhibition will be displayed through April 2.
Call 706-236-2219 for more details.
Kahnle graduated from Berry in 1991 and has been painting ever
since. Using oil, latex and enamel paint on wood panels, clay
board and canvas, the Marietta, Ga., native creates works that
he lightheartedly refers to as `simple and silly.`
Kahnle’s Berry exhibit will consist of recent abstract works as
well as poignant pieces from his past. As an artist, he enjoys
abstract expressionism and draws inspiration from such noted
painters as Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Lee Krasner
and Franz Kline.
`I’m not trying to paint like any of them, of course, or
attempting to time travel to their era,` he joked. `I just want
to produce work in that vein that is my own.`
When he is not painting, Kahnle works as a business development executive at Salon.com. He has also held executive positions at Newsweek, Redbook, Money and The New Yorker.
He lives in West Orange, N.J., just outside of New York City, with wife Catherine and their three children, Sadlie (7), Finnbarr (5) and Holden (2).
