County Approves Bid on Armuchee Connector

The Floyd County Commission accepted a bid for the Armuchee Connector at a meeting Tuesday.
The bid of $8.1 million was from C.W. Matthews Co,Inc. The road is expected to be completed by June 2011. County Manager Kevin Poe said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is scheduled to issue a permit in the next two to three weeks, then a preconstruction meeting would be scheduled.
The project is expected to start in November and will take 19 months.
The road will be 2.2 miles and will link Braves Boulevard at State Mutual Stadium to U.S. 27 at Old Summerville Road. A multipurpose trail lane for bicycles, pedestrians and horses is part of the design.
The money will come from the 2006 SPLOST package.
