Tim Miles led the way with 18 points, as the Berry men`s basketball team cruised into the Thanksgiving Break with an 81-46 win over Covenant on Tues. at the Steven J. Cage Athletic and Recreation Center. The Vikings improve to 5-4 with the win, while the Scots fall to 1-8 on the year.
Berry was comprehensive in victory, shooting a season high 56.6% from the floor, while holding its opponent to a modest 26.7% shooting. Miles led the way going 6-for-7 from the floor, including 5-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc. Berry set a season high for made three-point baskets going 10-for-23 (43.5%) from beyond the arc.
Miles also led the team with seven rebounds, equaling Lee Trebotich who snared seven boards of his own. The Vikings enjoyed a 41-22 advantage in total rebounds, including a 14-9 edge on the offensive glass.
Miles` 18 led the bench scoring, as the Berry reserves out-scored the Covenant reserves 44-16. Stephen Hunter also came of the bench to reach double-figures with 11 points. The Berry second-unit finished the game with more points than the starters. Chris Clark led the Berry starters with 15 points and also had six rebounds.
Josh Bracken added four points from the bench, to go with three rebounds and three assists. Trebotich, also did not start, but gave Berry four offensive rebounds (seven total rebounds) and six points.
The Vikings had a season-high 22 assists in the game. Daniel Ferguson, the team`s leading scorer this season with an average of 19.4 points per-game entering the contest, turned into a provider, seeing time at the point guard position. He tied for the team lead with five assists and scored six points on 3-for-5 shooting.
Berry never trailed in the game, pushing the lead to double-digits by the 12-minute mark of the first half and eventually taking a 43-21 lead into the halftime break. The Vikings led by as many as 41 points in the game, holding a 79-38 lead with 4:22 to play.
Chris Hall was the only Covenant player in double-figures, scoring 12 points on 4-for-10 shooting. Davis Elridge was the Scots` second leading scorer with seven points.
Berry also had four blocked shots in the game, including a pair or rejections from David Holloman. The Vikings dominated in the paint out-scoring the guests 38-14 down low.
Berry will take a short Thanksgiving Break and return to action on Sat. at 5 p.m. the Vikings will face Loyola (La.) in The Cage Center.
