Confirmed Case of West Nile Reported in Floyd Co.

Public health officials have confirmed that a 70 year-old
resident of Floyd County has the West Nile virus.
Testing was confimed at the Georgia Public Health Lab in Atlanta.
While the West Nile virus can be deadly, the victim is said
to be recovering.
This marks the second human case of West Nile virus in Georgia
this year.
West Nile virus is spread to people through the bite of an
infected mosquito. People age 50 and older and those with
compromised immune systems may experience an increased risk of
severe complications, even death, from the virus. The season
peaks in September and ends with the first freeze of the year.
