Georgia Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle was on hand with Floyd County
Schools superintendent Lynn Plunkett for the ribbon cutting
ceremony that officially opened the new Floyd County College and
Career Academy Tuesday.
The academy opens after two years of work and $3.2 million in
funds received from the state to help with its construction.
Cagle said that other career academies in the state have a
98 percent graduation rate and a 100 percent job placement rate
after graduation.
Following the ribbon cutting Cagle spoke to the Seven Hills
Rotary Club during their luncheon at the Coosa Country Club.
Cagle spoke not only on education but also the drought that
the state has seen over the past few years. He also mentioned
health care in which he said that there were 1.7 million
uninsured Georgians, and the additional $1,000
per family in health-insurance premium costs.
